Volunteering plays a significant role in meeting the needs of Calgarians. Calgary is home to more than 6,000 volunteer-engaging organizations and over 700,000 volunteers annually. The volunteer sector provides an opportunity for citizens to contribute to community socially and economically as well learn important skills. To ensure that everyone can participate in and benefit from volunteering in Calgary it is essential that volunteer organizations, funders, managers, and citizens reckon with the racism that is embedded in our practices and structures.
