Nonprofit Driven 2021: Community Finance for an Equitable Recovery

The world of loan financing for nonprofits (and equity for co-operatives) is shifting rapidly, with new sources of investment coming online to support social enterprise development. What is possible if we think “bigger”? For example, what could happen if nonprofits and co-operatives took over for-profit long-term care homes? And how about thinking “smaller,” with lending circles and community finance providing community-led solutions? This session will discuss the nonprofit sector’s role in ensuring that investor-driven financing is accessible to the women-majority nonprofit sector as well as Black, Indigenous, and racialized communities and highlight what to expect in 2022 as the federal Social Finance Fund rolls out.
